Broadwater Campsite February 24, 2008

Posted by akela in : Cubs , comments closed

I spent the afternoon checking out Broadwater campsite and local area ready for our cub pack holiday in May.

We have used the site before a number of years ago, they have made some changes since we were last there.

The site has wild running deer – so it gave me a chance to see deer wandering around the area freely. A sight to be seen, but to be honest if I heard cubs screaming I wouldn’t stay around for long.

We also checked out the possibilities of a local hike, even though it started to rain we have found some nice LONG local hikes we could use.

The campsite has had a few improvements since we last visited – the toilets and showers have been spruced up extremely well, there is now a roof on the climbing  and absailing block, but still no sign posts for the site  however you can follow the hotel  signs which direct you there anyway.

We used the M42 to get to the site, only 25 minutes away.

But all in all a great afternoon out and plans for the camp are coming along very well indeed. All we need now is the cubs to book their places on Tuesday.

Check out the photos i have placed in  the Spring folder 2008.

BADGES February 19, 2008

Posted by akela in : Cubs , comments closed

We would like cubs to design a badge.

The badge will be to represent the Older Cub Training weekend which is held for sixers or older cubs from the district every year in Derbyshire.

The badge should be of rectangular shape and have a maximum of 3 colors.

It is to have no DATE / Venue on it – only writing can be Older Cub Training Weekend.

Size isn’t important as any design will be scaled down.

Designs can be made on computer or hand, and cubs wishing to take part need to send Akela their design as soon as possible before Easter.

Birmingham County are 100 this year and as a celebration a badge has been designed for wearing on all uniforms.

Money raised from purchasing the badges will be donated to the children’s hospital. These will be available shortly

The trip is 10 days away and it WILL give every cub scout who goes an experience of a life time.

St David’s have sent 6 – 9 cubs on each International Cub Odyssey trips over the past 10 years and everyone has commented on how much fun and enjoyment each young person has had.

I will be attending as usual and i hope i can say some cubs from St David will be joining me on a trip of a lifetime.

If you want any more information or discuss the plans then don’t hesitate to call me. I know some cubs that went still are with St David’s Scout Group lets hear what they thought of the trip as well.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers February 11, 2008

I have now received this year’s Sainsbury’s active kids resource pack.

This years catalogue has loads of new equipment both scouting and sporting.

2007 saw the group collect 5150 active kids vouchers and it is hoped we can do as well if not better this year.

Vouchers will be available in Sainsbury’s stores from Wednesday 14th February until 4th June. So this will give us plenty of time to collect.

Thank you to all those people outside of our group that send their vouchers by post – your support is greatly appreciated.

A box for vouchers will be placed in the church hall on pack nights, outside of pack nights an envelope will be placed on the scout notice board.

Cubs will be awarded points for collecting vouchers so support your child / grand child  please.

Good luck everyone
