Well 2007 is nearly over after a year long party to celebrate scoutings centenary.

2008 looks like it is going to be filled with new adventures and excitment.

We have now been informed of new changes which wil affect all members.

Challenge awards will now include - COMMUNITY challenge PROMISE challenge and OUTDOOR PLUS challenge and the discontinuation of the CARING challenge. Fitness, Creative, Global and Outdor challenges stay but with added requiremnets.

Also cubs working towards the cheif scout silver award now hve to complete 6 challenge awards  from the 8 offered.

There is only one activty badge being discontinued - adventure activty badge but this has been made into the OUTDOOR PLUS challenge.

Also the old Joining in (green) badge is dicontinued instead coloured numbered stars are to replace them and they are all to remain on the uniform during the young persons stay in the section.

New cub scout handbooks have been designed with new certificates.

We look forward to recieving mor einformation about these changes, as soon as we are informed we will attempt to work towards these new badges.

Cubs are reminded to bring in with them on Tuesday evening work towards their Global Challenge Award.

Cubs were given a country - Australia, France, Spain, India or China.

Cubs need to bring in something that shows the TRADITIONS of that country.

be it food, drink, pictures, costume, language, sport.

What is the local traditional dress / food / drink / culture / sport / language. We wait and see what cubs bring with them.

Check out the link to Scoutbase to find a competition aimed at cub ages

http://www.scouts.org.uk/skills/

Secret Skills encourages kids to roll up their sleeves and have a go and also reminds adults to pass on the skills they learnt as kids to the next generation. There’s lots of inspiration already on the site for activities that both guardians and kids can get involved with, but it is a site that young people own and share amongst themselves.

Thank you  to those cubs and leaders who attended the Remembrance Sunday church parade today.

A chance to remember those who have fought for us in war and conflict.

I was moved by the silence for the 2 minute silence.

Thank You

The next few weeks cubs will be working on their personal fitness.

Taking part in bases which will see an all round physical workout to show an improvement in all areas.

Cubs should remember to bring a drink and wear suitable clothing

Young Scout Old Scout - YSOS November 4, 2007

All sections were presented at the start of the new term with a folder of information relating to the County run Young Scout Old Scout.

This project sponsored by the National Lottery and Carl Chinn is to try and find information about scouting in the past 100 years in Birmingham.

County will proffessionally edit information sent to them to make a DVD about 100 years of scouting in Birmingham.

The information can be delivered in many ways - collages, stories, pictures and interviews.

Therfore we at St Davids are trying to find any scouts/scouters from 50 + years ago to interview and write about.

If you can help then please make contact with your section leader or Akela

We appreciate your support in our 100th year.

Running on from this St Davids scout group will be holding a GROUP REUNION on Saturday 12th April 2008 4.00pm in St Davids Church hall it would be great to have as many past and present members present.

Some cubs have expressed the desire to complete the Home Help badge at home. Please use the link below to direct you to the badge requirements and worksheets.

Please print page 7 of the booklet and complete with your child.

Evidence of the work is essential, and cubs will be tested on completition by one of the leaders.

Juggling Bags November 1, 2007

Next Tuesday evening, cubs will be making and designing their own Juggling bags so we can learn a new skill towards their Fitness Challenge.

Can we ask that cubs bring a sewing needle with them to cubs. To ensure they arrive at cubs safely can parents place the needle in an envelope or in something which your child will know it has a sharp and small needle inside.

Please note we cant guarantee that the same needle will return home.

Please note any cubs who wish to take part in the bowling or badge day need to inform me as soon as possible.

I hope all those who couldnt access the cub photo album now can.
