Cubs visit the World Scout Jamboree July 31, 2007

Posted by akela in : Cubs , 1 comment so far

6 cubs and 3 leaders visited the World Scout Jamboree on Monday.

We travelled by coach on the long journey to Essex and had a day expereincing what a Scout does at teh jamboree.

We had the privalege of visiting one of our Units 007 site on their sub camp (we were told these were out of bounds) unfortunaly Timmy nor Guy were there but we were made very welcome. their staff showed the cubs how they lived togehter as a unit during their stay at the Jamboree.

Our visit included a Show in the main arena which was Vast, we met many people we knew - Pete Sitford who was a cub leader until last year with us, and ex members of the group which was nice.

Cubs also met Scouts from, USA, HONG KONG, UK, MEXICO, TURKEY, VENEZUELA and many others from around the world.

Cubs swapped woggles, neckercheifs and group information so we hope to have a few new contacts throughout the world to keep in touch with and share our scouting Experiences.

It is an adventure i have never had and these cubs are lucky to have had this opportunity to see how 40,000 scouts from worldwide can join together and have a great deal of fun and adventure.

Together with 2 other st davids leaders i was pleased to attend the Valediction service at Birmingham Cathedral today.

The service celebrated 100 years of scouting, the world - wide family of scouting and for peace and freindship at the jamboree.

Timmy and Guy who are representing not just St Davids, The District and County of Birmingham were in attendance and we all passed on our best

wishes to them both.

We wish them good luck  for the next few weeks which will see them meet many thousands of new young people from almost every country in the world, and experience something only a small handfull of leaders can say they have done.

We hope to meet up with them when the cubs visit the jamboree on 30th July.

I promise it will be an expereince they will NEVER forget, they are our future leaders and their expereinces will live with them forever throughout their scouting lives.

Jambo - The Official Song of the World Scout Jamboree

The Official Song of the Scout Association

Celebrating Our Centenary and The Jamboree

Please forward this email to everyone you know in Scouting

Hi !

Jambo - The Official Song of The Scout Association is currently CD of the week in Tesco Stores throughout the UK. (week beginning 16th July).

We would like to celebrate our Centenary of Scouting with a Top Ten Single and we need all Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, etc. to get involved this week and join our mission to top the charts and show the world that Scouting has the ‘S’ Factor!

Please go to www.jamboreesong.com and forward this email to everyone you know in Scouting.  We need as many people as possible to get the Single or download by Sunday 22nd July so that we can get into the Top 40 - then the radio stations will have to play The Scouts’ song and spread the Scouting Message - wouldn’t a Number One single be a great way to celebrate our Centenary!

The Official CD is on the shelves at Tesco NOW and the song is available to download at itunes and at The Official Scout Download Site for just 99p!.

At www.jamboreesong.com there is a ‘Hall Of Fame’ where Scouts, Cubs and Beavers from all over the UK are sending in photos of themselves with their copy of ‘Jambo’!

The band, The Adventure, is made up of four Scouts, Peter, Lucie, Nick and Caz. The song was recorded in April and features vocal support from Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

We need our Members and the parents of our young people to join in with the mission to get to the top of the charts. We have produced a letter for parents, telling them about the single and how they can join in our mission.

The main ways to get the single in the United Kingdom  are:

In the UK, pop into your local Tesco store and pick up the souvenir CD.  The CD contains five tracks plus the Jambo video and exclusive Scouting web content and costs just £3.99  You can also order your CD from tesco online!

Outside the UK, you can order your copy of the souvenir CD at www.jamboreesong.com/world

Visit www.jamboreesong.com where you can download  the song, as well as the dance remix and the karaoke track.  The tracks are also available on itunes

If you are an adult leader, please download the letter for parents and spread the word about ‘Jambo’.

Wherever you are in the world, please forward this message to everyone you know in Scouting!

Yours in Scouting

Gaining Cub Activity Badges July 18, 2007

Posted by akela in : Cubs , add a comment

I know most of the cubs will become bored over the 6 week holidays and some well there wont be enough holiday for them.

So as we said to the cubs this week if your bored try for a activity badge from the list below.

Animal Carer, Astronomer, Equestrian, Hobbies, Collector, Home Help, Skater, Sports Enthusiast, Physical Recreation, Martial Arts, and local knowledge

all of the above badges can not be run during pack nights so the holidays gives cubs the chance to gain badges they wouldnt do on a tuesday night.

Any badge which cubs would like to do will be tested in September, so any work must be kept for then. The use of photogrpahs, leaflets etc are suitable to show cubs have done something.

Please use this link to view guidance and requirements.

http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/library/hqdocs/badges/…

please let me know what badge/s your child wishes to do as i have to order them.

Cubs will return a week later than the schools on Tuesday 11th September.

If there are any visits, trips, activities that any cubs would like to see appear on the cub program post your comments here.

6 cubs and 3 leaders will join 1000’s of other scouters from around the world at the World Jamboree on 30th July memories they will live with forever.

Also members will reafirm their promise at sunrise ceremonies around the world on 1st August. This will be open in City Centre at 8am for any members wishing to do so. Akela will be in attendance so any other members wishing to attend let me know.

I just wish to THANK - Brian, Amy, Llinos, Gez, Sarah, Angela and the other leaders for their support and hard work over the year and especially good luck to Tinks (Laura) who will not be with us in September as she has gone off to university. We hope to see her back real soon.

Thank you everyone
