'Scout Camp Wales 2007'
I had the privilege of spending the day yesterday (Tuesday 29th May) with all on the ‘Bala Camp’
It was a brilliant day and the weather was just fantastic, we even had Auntie Barb rushing around
administering sun-cream !!!
When I arrived at just after 10.00 we had the flag break and after a quick cup of tea, then helped
Avon and Laura carry out the Scouts camping site morning inspection, with full ‘kit’ inspection (primarily
to find all the lost items from the last couple of days !!!)
After another cuppa the Scouts started on their camp ‘gadgets’ while Avon and Mike took me on a full
tour of the whole site. Upon our return some of the Leaders and myself started on the first of the
camps ‘pioneering’ projects – a “Monkey Bridge” - across the small river that runs down one edge of
the site. Breaking for a lunch of sandwiches and followed by fruit it was back to finish off the bridge
and then for everyone – and I mean everyone, Skip, Barbara, me, Laura all the scouts and other
Leaders spent a great couple of hours wobbling our way across this splendid bridge, with Mike and Dave
taking copious photos. It was time then for the Scouts in their 3 patrols to prepare their fires in readiness
for the evening meal, cooked in camp fire ovens of Roast Chicken. Mean while Kek, taking charge of
a ‘Dutch Oven’, cooked the most delicious piece of beef for the Leaders meal, with roast pots, mashed
pots, peas and carrots. The 3 patrols and the Leaders all eat at the same time, the scouts on their
sites and the Leaders in the mess tent. All was followed by brilliant ‘steamed puddings’ and custard,
which was prepared by all of the ‘ Scout Camp first timers’ and cooked by Barbara, we all sat and eat that
together. By now it was 19.30 and there was not an insignificant amount of washing and clearing up to
do, this was with good team work quickly done and then the final site inspection by Avon and myself.
A quick sit down a chat and another cuppa and then time for the Scouts to start their ‘Mini Olympics’
competition and for me (as it was 21.30 by now) to head off home.
I arrived home very tired but having had a most wonderful ‘Scouting’ day.
Many thanks to the Leaders and Scouts of St. David’s for allowing me to spend the day and for all
the wonderful food.
Keep up the true ‘Scouting’ way that St. D’s always do.

One Response to District Commissioner’s report from Scout Camp

Im glad you all seem to have had some sunshine, you must have had more than we did in Brum on Tuesday.
Glad to hear the cooking of the steam puddings went well, past cubs have always seemed to enjoy the cooking and backwoods style things.
Well done everyone of what seems an amazing week away
