Name A Locomotive April 11, 2007

Scouting is taking to the rails

The Scout Association has had an offer from a train operator to name an engine after a Scouting theme, and we want you to name this train!

So if you love locomotives and like a challenge, as all Scouts do, we are asking you to put your brain into motion and think of a great name that represents the Scouting brand. Names already suggested include Adventure Express, The Flying Scout and Adventure Scout - all good and keeping with the image of Scouting as adventurous, fun and challenging.

But we know you are all brimming with ideas and want to offer you the chance to christen the train. Can you think of a great train name to encapsulate Scouting ? We would encourage you to steer clear of names incorporating Baden Powell or Gilwell House as names like these may be unfamiliar to the general public. Names should ideally be along the themes of adventure, fun and challenge.

You could also bear in mind the stations where the train might be launched. For example, if your suggested name is along the theme of the Jamboree, Chelmsford would be an ideal location or something which ties in with the 2007 Scouting calendar.

Keeping in mind these points and send your suggestions to sorcha.clifford@scout.org.uk, and we’ll go full steam ahead with getting this engine moving.

Scout camp 2007 April 4, 2007

St Davids scout group will be off on Camp during Whitsun week.

I hear they are going to Bala, Wales for their week camp.

If theres any scouts or parents out there who are bit worried about putting their name down for the week away, Dont Be.

The week away may seem to many of us a long time, but it flies by. And when the scouts get back cant stop talking about their adventures and experiences they have had.

The week enables every scout to learn and practise new scouting skills and have some fun and make new friends.Yes there is abit of hard work but it makes the next Patrol Leaderand forms the leaders of tomorrow.

The scouts, enjoy building their own fires, cooking their patrols breakfast, collecting their own wood. They also enjoy other actvities which the scout leaders put on for them.

Please if your worried or concernded over your son going to camp speak to ANY of the scout leaders as they will be happy to talk the camp through with you.

Well how many of you out there were caught out with the Aprils Fools Jokes?

I thought im not going to get caught out this year, until my brother Martin called home at 3pm this afternoon.

He said get the kettle on im on the M40 motorway. What we said.

For those that dont know my brother lives in Utah, USA 4774 miles away

We heard Aoife my neice in the background and Martin said he was going to a buisness meeting.

We fell for it, they were all tucked up in bed at home in Utah (7hrs behind)

Has anyone else been the subject of an April Fool today ??Lets us know by replying to this post.
