Geocaching March 31, 2007

A nice article in Scouting Magazine that Akela sent my way.

It talks about Geocaching and how cubs and scouts get great fun from it.

Here is the article – http://www.scouts.org.uk/magazine/AprMay07/p57.html

The 254th St Peter’s Scouts from Cole Valley, South Birmingham, have placed a travel bug in a cache close to their Meeting Place. With the help of geocachers, Scout Leader Mark Williams hopes the bug will make it to Hadrian’s Wall before the Scouts do, in August.
‘We are planning to walk across the wall,’ says Mark, ‘and the Scouts will have to find the location of a cache I placed there last autumn, as well as the bug – if it has made it! We’ve asked anyone finding the original cache to write in the log if they have ever been involved in Scouting and to take a photo of themselves with the camera I left.

Akela and I have put several Travel Bugs on the road in the USA – they are trying to get back to England:

The first is ‘Long Live West District

The second is called ‘Back to Gilwell – 2007 Jamboree TB

Both have travelled thousands of miles in the last year – and are slowly heading to Birmingham and the Jamboree site.
