Geocaching – and a West District Travel Bug August 11, 2006
Posted by martin in : Cubs , comments closedAkela is in the USA on holiday – and one of the things we did with her is geocaching.
What is geocaching?
Geocaching is an entertaining adventure game for gps users. Participating in a cache hunt is a good way to take advantage of the wonderful features and capability of a gps unit. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users can then use the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache may provide the visitor with a wide variety of rewards. All the visitor is asked to do is if they get something they should try to leave something for the cache.
We also made a travel bug for her. What is a travel bug? Read all about it here.
Here’s the detail. And this is what it looks like:
The goal of this travel bug is to travel back to Birmingham.
The Scouting area of West District in Birmingham, England ceased to exist in 2005. This Travel Bug shows the district badges from West District and of its replacement Rea Valley District. This Travel Bug especially wants to be picked up and moved along by Cub Packs and Scout Groups – please email news and pictures to travelbug@281st-stdavids-cubs.org and put them on the log. The goal of the travel bug is to travel from Utah back to West District in Birmingham, England.
St David’s Scout Group web site? August 8, 2006
Posted by martin in : Cubs , comments closedSome of you may have noticed that the Scout Group web site now directs to this site. Why is this?
Well – here’s some history.
I started the structure for the Group website early in the New Year. Everything was planned for a ‘grand launch’ on St David’s Day – 1st March 2006.
Nothing.
No interest from anyone.
That’s why the only part that is running is the Cub Scout web site.
